Snoring indicates that the air passage in the respiratory tract is not in sufficient patency, and a fairly severe snoring indicates that the air passage through a narrow space is made with difficulty. Accepting that snoring is a disease is the first step to be taken for treatment. In general, a snoring person does not consult a doctor alone because he is not bothered by his own snoring. Since a snoring person is a bad sleeping companion, snoring patients are usually brought to us by their spouses, friends who go on business trips together and even neighbors with whom they have to share the same room. Snoring is a disease that risks one's own health and life, as well as a social disease. The most important point about snoring is to determine when snoring causes health problems. This disease is an occlusive type of sleep apnea and is the most common type we encounter in general. 10% to 30% of adults?it is estimated that snoring is observed in the In most of these people, snoring is not enough to cause serious health problems called simple snoring. it is estimated that about five out of 100 people have breathing stops during sleep along with severe snoring, hence the disease called obstructive sleep-apnea syndrome.

This is in the form that simple or tonsil nasal flesh or nasal disorders, such as allergy or infection treatment, require surgery. Snoring - Getting out of breath Successful results are obtained from snoring surgeries that provide fixation of moving tissues and further expansion of the airway. This is called uvulopalatopharyngoplasty surgery (UPPP). It does not feel very different from tonsil surgery for the patient. Laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP), in which a laser is used, is another surgery that can be performed with local anaesthesia. In cases where surgery is too risky or undesirable by the patient, he can sleep wearing a mask that delivers compressed air to the throat (CPAP). Every child who snores chronically should be examined in detail by an ENT specialist. In cases where tonsil and nasal flesh surgery is necessary, surgical intervention will provide very important benefits to children's health and development.
Can snoring be eliminated?
It is known that one of the most important causes of snoring is excess weight. It was found that snoring significantly decreased or completely disappeared in 80% of patients who were not overweight and weakened. Methods such as weight loss, special shaped pillows, the use of certain devices placed in the mouth or nose, sleeping medications, sedative medications, and avoiding the use of alcohol can be useful in controlling snoring. But all of them require significant changes in living conditions, and this should happen constantly. There is an effective method that will eliminate snoring. With this surgical method called "Laser uvulo-palatoplasty (LAUP)", the tissues in the soft palate are reshaped and snoring can be prevented. The success rate of this surgery is between 85-90%. In the operation, the tissues in the soft palate are carefully shrunk with a laser beam, and with the healing and stretching of the tissues over time, their vibrations during sleep, that is, snoring, disappear. The reason for using a laser beam in surgery is that the laser has the ability to cut soft tissues without causing bleeding. The operation lasts about half an hour and is performed with local anaesthesia to numb the throat. In many patients, the desired result is obtained with one-time treatment; however, in some patients, the operation may need to be repeated at the earliest with an interval of four weeks. Even if snoring does not completely disappear in some patients, its severity decreases. Between a few days and two weeks following the LAUP surgery, a sore throat is felt and controlled with pain medication. Most of the patients return to their normal lives within a few days and become able to start working, they are only asked to avoid strenuous physical activities such as heavy lifting. The time of the effects of the surgery varies from person to person. In some patients, the result is obtained immediately, snoring is stopped on the day of surgery. In other patients, the result of the operation appears and becomes final within up to a month.
